Thank You!

What a wonderful week at Lagganlia with a top notch team of pupils and staff. It was great to see friendships develop and grow between the children. As well as being very determined to take on every challenge, they were also exceptionally good company and we really feel our P7 team has been firmly established.

The Sciennes staff sustained the 24/5 duty also by working very closely as a team. The P7 teachers are a strong and talented unit who prepared the pupils extremely well for their adventurous residential course. Mr Forrest Howie is an accomplished camp leader who inspired all the pupils to try their very best. Mrs Fiona Barker is also a very experienced camp leader and knows all the children extremely well. We really struggled with very slow connection speeds and extremely limited mobile signal yet Ms Wendy French and Mrs Barker particularly were relentless in their efforts to maintain this blog, doggedly keeping families updated while we were away (despite having little spare time). Ms French, as ever, was so kind and caring and motivating. Seasoned top camper Ms Angela Christie, Business Manager, was also high profile with all nine groups day and night. We were delighted to be accompanied by Pupil Support Assistants Miss Rachel Ingles (a former Outdoor Education Instructor herself) and joining us for the first time Mrs Suzanne Halliday (also a Sciennes parent). Both gave exceptionally high levels of care and attention to the pupils. We were fortunate to have Mr Barry Hewitt join us in his role as Outdoor Learning Development Officer for City of Edinburgh Council and Mr Jonathan Wallace, Active Sports Co-ordinator for JGHS Cluster, really enjoyed getting to know all the children better, which will benefit all those who continue to work with him next year at James Gillespie's High School.

We were joined on Wednesday by a delegation of Edinburgh Councillors led by Councillor Paul Godzik, Education Convener, and including Councillor Cathy Fullerton, Councillor Denis Dixon, Councillor Maureen Child, Councillor Sandy Howat and our very own former Sciennes' parent Councillor Melanie Main. It was commendable that they took the time to make the trip to see first hand Lagganlia's excellence in outdoor education and spend time with some of our pupils.

Grateful thanks to the entire Sciennes team and also to the extended team back at school, particularly Mrs Noble and Mrs Ellis.

We are indebted to Ian Ross, Graeme Douglas and all the staff at Lagganlia who go out of their way to make our stay with them as comfortable as it can possibly be, always going the extra mile to accommodate our needs, and for the great skill,  expertise and dedication of the instructors. Certificates with hand written comments from each instructor were presented and will be carefully stored at school for pupils' JASS folders. All pupils who took part this week will also receive the 'Adventure' certificate; one quarter of the way towards full Silver award accreditation.

Thank you to Mrs Peace and Mrs Nowell who have ensured that the pupils who remained at school also had an enjoyable and interesting week.

Thank you most sincerely to all the families who support us, not least of all financially, in providing what we believe to be an invaluable educational opportunity for our children.

We look forward to building on the success of this week throughout the final year at Sciennes. Well done, Primary Seven! All Lagganlia Champions! Ms Gallagher
